Heerema Marine Contractors is proud to announce the successful completion of the Suction Bucket Jacket (SBJ) foundation installation campaign at Ørsted’s Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms in Taiwan. Our heavy lift vessel Aegir and her crew have safely installed all 66 SBJ foundations, marking the conclusion of a complex offshore operation. Heerema Marine Contractors congratulates Ørsted with this important milestone.
The foundations, varying in size and complexity, weighed between 2,050 and 2,400 metric tons, stood 73 to 85 meters tall, and had footprints of up to ~38 meters. Aegir’s recently upgraded crane, capable of lifting 3,200 metric tons at a height of 110 meters, was deployed to carry out the installation campaign safely and efficiently.

Project Manager at Heerema Marine Contractors, Michiel Dijk: “The successful and timely completion of the SBJ installation campaign at Greater Changhua 2b and 4 reflects the professionalism and teamwork of everyone involved. The SBJ foundation concept, designed by Ørsted, aligned well with Aegirs capabilities. Despite the challenging environmental conditions, we installed all 66 foundations and one offshore substation safely and efficiently. This performance really shows our ability to execute complex offshore wind operations globally.”
