Responsibilities

Your role in the story

You contribute to the development of our Data and Analytics Team (DAT) within which you make relevant data available and integrate. You will develop the building blocks for our data platform and you will develop the data pipelines with which you make data available for viewers, analyses and for data science products. In addition, you are jointly responsible for ensuring the high quality outcomes of the data team.

In this role, you will:

  • Ensure that our data and reporting is easily accessible, shareable, and effectively used to drive business growth.
  • Combine your technical expertise with leadership to build a strong and scalable data infrastructure.
  • Lead by example, balancing essential foundational work with agile delivery of impactful data products, while actively developing your team members.
  • Bridge the gap between business goals and data strategies, ensuring alignment and maximizing the value of data across the organization.

What you will be working on

Python and SQL are your mother languages. Databricks and other Azure stacks are your best friends.

You have rich work experience in Dutch Companies with Microsoft Azure covering Data Lakes, Data Factory, Databricks, DBT and Power BI. You don't do this alone, but together with your agile team in Azure DevOps. You will work on User Stories across internal business areas such as Vessel sensor data, HR, and Finance, collaborating with data engineers, analytics engineers, and data scientists. 

You enjoy setting up DevOps pipelines, working with data using Python and PySpark, and utilizing Terraform for infrastructure management . You will work on improving, scaling, and optimizing the current DWH and ETL systems using Azure components. You'll also consult with the Technical Lead on advanced developments in Azure and Databricks.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Translate user requirements into data solutions in Azure and Databricks. 
  • Convert data on the data platform into usable data marts by applying ETL tools, following architectural guidelines and organization-wide coding standards. 
  • Conduct testing, documentation, release, and management of internal data products.
  • Transform complex data into clear, compelling visualizations, dashboards, and reports that empower stakeholders to make informed, data-driven decisions.
  • Ensure data marts remain current, accurate, timely, complete, and fully operational as per agreed criteria.
  • Coordinate with business analysts from other teams on mutual data needs and exchange. 
  • Manage and optimise User Stories and Pipelines within Azure DevOps
  • Monitor, secure, monitor and optimize data storage. 
  • Proactively advise on best practices in the field within Azure to level up the business intelligence maturity levels  
  • Manage authorizations and monitoring (e.g. Azure Purview etc.) data usage within the internal domain, in collaboration with the data steward and in accordance with Security and Compliance guidelines. 
  • Informing customers about changes in their own data marts.

You will work closely together with data specialists, BI analysts and other colleagues in our departments to create high quality data services and deliver digital value.
 

Education and Experience

This is what we ask
You can communicate clearly in English (Dutch is a plus). You are socially skilled and you have a broad knowledge of data. You have a vision of how to work with data and experience with data-wide management across an organization.

You know how to quickly acquire new information and skills. This enables you to respond flexibly to changes and does not shy you away from new challenges.

What we would like to see on your CV:

  • A degree at HBO or WO level, such as business IT & management, information science, technical business administration, or computer science.
  • You have knowledge of the Databricks and Azure landscape.
  • You have at least 5 years of proven Enterprise Experience with Python, SQL, Databricks, Power BI.
  • It is an advantage if you already have experience with: DBT in a production environment, with setting up CI/CD pipelines, orchestration tooling (Azure Data Factory, etc.) and have knowledge of data modeling (star models, 3NF, Data vault)
