For a small installation contractor, HES performed an on-bottom stability and strength assessment for the pile cutting stages of a jacket removal project. HES developed, proposed and analyzed alternative cutting strategies, that greatly increased the workability of the offshore operation, as well as reduced the amount of steel required to ensure the stability of the jacket.

An optimized workflow that included SACS and Python was established, such that a range of sea states could be evaluated simultaneously. Abaqus was used to make a detailed assessment of the jacket base shear capacity.
